Festa on Ice 2010

We plan to continue our 2009-2010 retrospective soon, but we wanted to make a post about a certain favorite skating show of ours while it was still timely. Of all of the off-season shows, Festa on Ice is our absolute favorite. We aren't even going to tell you why in our introduction. We are just going to let this recap speak for itself. (These costumes represent a mixture of 2009-2010 exhibition costumes and brand new costumes for Festa on Ice.)

Group (top), Yu-Na Kim (middle), Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin (bottom)
I've Got a Feeling
The group numbers in jeans are one of the best parts about Festa. We might hate fake clothes on figure skaters, but seeing them skate in real jeans is always a treat. Last year, the jeans were brightly primary colored, but this year, it looks like everyone just wore their own jeans. The white button downs are Bee's favorite part. Normally she hates clothes with writing on them (see: Voronov's FS), but these have everyone's names written on them.  It's like camp tee shirts! And may we just add that it's such a relief to see Domnina and Shabalin wearing anything at all other than their 'aboriginal' costumes.

Yu-Na Kim
Méditation
Yuna would look gorgeous in anything. She could wear a stained tee shirt and culottes onto the ice and we'd still think she was the most beautiful skater. That's why when we see her in things that are actually nicely designed, we die a little inside. She skated this exhibition this season and this is a stunning costume change for her. Bee wants more skaters to use black mesh in their costumes instead of illusion mesh.

Yu-Na Kim
Abracadabra (Finale)
So, Yuna walks out onto the ice in skin tight shiny leggings and a cropped top and we still think she's the classiest girl in skating. We pretty much hate this outfit, but it's Yuna, so we aren't even sure we're allowed to think that.

Ilia Kulik
Mustang Nismo
Here it is. Why we love Festa. That's Ilia Kulik in tight shiny red jeans and a black tank top.

Kwak Min-Jung
Marshmallow
We're pretty sure that this is what the popular girls wore in sixth grade.

Patrick Chan
Viva La Vida
We wish Chan had worn this instead of his FS costume this season. Because, despite the rhinestones, this is really nice.

Shae-Lynn Bourne
The Sound of San Francisco
Elle loves Shae-Lynn Bourne for choreographing Jeremy Abbott's amazing short program this season, and for her awesome David Wilson routine to Poker Face on ABC'S Thin Ice. Bee thinks this dress is very 2003, but we both think this outfit is perfect for Festa. She looks like she should striding towards the camera in a promo for some sassy new sitcom about confident women.

Shae-Lynn Bourne
Bridge Over Troubled Water
This is one of the few instances it would be appropriate to show off white skating boots and Shae-Lynn did not induldge. Also we hate this dress, but this is so not the time for classy dresses so we'll give it a pass. This looks a little too much like a wedding dress for Bee's comfort, but at least it's Festa where the ice looks purple from the lights. Good thing she didn't wear this in competition because no one would be able to see her jump.

Kiira Korpi
If I Were  A Boy
This is Kiira Korpi in a bedazzled cop costume that she stripteased out of into a tight black dress. While skating. It's at times like these that it's hardest to be a fashion blogger. There is nothing to say about this except that we wish it was Festa On Ice every day. She even has a sparkly gun.

Brian Joubert
Sandstorm
Sometimes we think Brian Joubert is just fucking with us. Is a man that attractive seriously wearing that? It has mesh panels up the sides. Its plunge neckline has lacing across it. However, Elle is in favor of any costume that shows off more of Joubert's skin.

Group
Run Devil Run
Originally, Bee didn't like this dress at all and Elle kind of liked it, but then we realized that the ruffles were actually printed on. We can forgive Yuna a lot for being Yuna, and we can forgive Festa a lot for being Festa, but this is pretty bad. Shae-Lynne's top is even worse. But we're fine as long as they keep these costumes out of actual exhibitions.
